South Boston BeachesBoston, MassachusettsThe three miles of the South Boston Beaches project were rehabilitated as part of the Back to the Beaches legislation that provided $30 million for urban beaches. Included in the $7 million of work at South Boston were resanded beaches, new boardwalks and handicapped accessible beach entrances, new site walls, beach and upland planting, lighting, signage, new parking areas and multi-use trails, and two rehabilitated historic pavilions, one with a rehabilitated fishing pier. Shoreline protection was installed as were drinking fountains and foot showers. As prime consultant and Principal, Pam Shadley led the CRJA team to program, permit, design, and construct three construction phases with the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Completed in 2001, the project received an Honor Award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects. More Images (click on image to see larger view)
