Capisic Brook Greenway Master Plan

Pam Shadley led the extensive community planning process for the Capisic Brook Greenway Master Plan in Portland, Maine while a Principal with another firm.  Working with a committee appointed by the Mayor to include abutters, specialists in hydrogeology and botany and City staff, Ms. Shadley led the development of the concept alternatives and implementation strategies for the Capisic Brook Master Plan. Conceived by the City of Portland as a way to integrate necessary engineering improvements for storm water conveyance with ecosystem and recreational improvements, the Master Plan provides for public trails with boardwalks, habitat improvements and interpretive signage through a large area of Portland, and connects schools, open spaces, parking areas, and conservation lands. It also meets the City's requirements for storm water conveyance and separation. As Prime Consultant, Ms. Shadley led the team of landscape architects, wetland specialists, biologists and engineers to produce this integrated improvement plan. Located almost entirely on private property, the proposed trails needed abutter and community approval. The Plan was accepted by the Portland City Council in 2001, and received a 2001 Merit Award for Planning from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects.
