Wentworth Institute of Technology - Sweeney FieldBoston, MassachusettsLocated in downtown Boston, the Myles Elliott and Eugenia Sweeney Field project converted a 210 car parking lot into a synthetic turf field for NCAA level soccer, lacrosse, and softball. As manager and designer of the project while he was at CRJA, JP Shadley managed a team including six sub-consultants through the design, public approvals, permitting, and construction process. Located at the campus gateway, the project provided a good fit with the neighborhood. A public park provides a place to relax or watch the games, the scoreboard was incorporated into the campus gateway marker, and the field is enclosed by handsome brick piers and steel fencing, all integrated with an attractive ball containment netting system. The field is lighted for night games. Sweeney Field won a design award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects in 1997. More Images (click on image to see larger view)
