Attleboro Streetscapes

Attleboro, Massachusetts

The City of Attleboro, Massachusetts, wanted to upgrade its downtown to improve connections and aesthetics and to attract development. Pam Shadley was CRJA Principal-in-Charge of a design process that included extensive meetings with an appointed project committee, the business association, and the public. Following programming and design alternatives, the final Master Plan included traffic calming measures such as neckdowns and street trees, and improved sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, signage, adjacent fencing and seasonal planters. The plan included plan views, perspectives, cost estimates, phasing diagrams and a summary of the many public meetings.

The designers and committee explored many options for Attleboro, and held many discussions on its character and transportation and pedestrian needs. The commuter rail station in the downtown, which is undergoing major construction, provides a much-needed service and the downtown plan was integrated with this separate project. The Downtown Attleboro Master Plan was accepted by the City Council in January, 2004. Pam Shadley completed this project while a Principal with CRJA.
