Heyburn Building

Louisville, Kentucky

Shadley Associates provided streetscape design for the Heyburn Building in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Improvements for the broad sidewalks in front of this major office building include new patterned pavement and cast stone planters and, in keeping with Louisville's extraordinary cast iron architectural heritage, the site furnishings, including bollards, street lights, banner posts and a new bus shelter, will all be high quality metal fixtures. As part of the project, improvements to the building included refurbishments at the entries, new awnings, new building signage, uplighting on the façade of the building and light sconces.

Improvements were coordinated with the City's ambitious downtown streetscape plans, which include plans for Fourth Street and the entire length of Broadway. In conjunction with the City's plans, building management has been strategically increasing the building's restaurant and retail tenancy at the ground floor. In addition, new sidewalk dining provisions will soon enliven this urban street. The construction of the sidewalk and building improvements at the Heyburn Building were completed in 2005.
