Country Elementary School

Weston, Massachusetts

The Country School in Weston, Massachusetts, is a new elementary school constructed behind the original building while school was in session. The gymnasium was the only original structure to be maintained in the new building. Located on the site so as to touch but not impact wetlands, riverfront area, floodplain and the town's aquifer protection district, the building takes advantage of a sloped site. Site design included a new bus drop-off, a separate parent drop-off, and a new parking area for 50 cars where there was previously no on-site parking. Impact to the existing granite outcroppings and the native vegetation were minimized.

The project required extensive collaboration with the School Building Committee to coordinate the work and the site design, and extensive permitting with the town of Weston. While she was a Principal at CRJA and working with the project architects, Pam Shadley led the site design, bid document production and the construction phase.
