Franklin, Indiana

Franklin CollegeFollowing a tragic fire more than a decade ago, Franklin College has tirelessly invested in rebuilding its campus. In the time since the fire, not only has every building on campus been restored, most have actually undergone extensive renovations, and several major new buildings and facilities have been added.

The College's sustained commitment has brought great improvements to the quality of the campus, and the work continues today. Several major projects are underway, including significant improvements to the campus landscape. While a Principal at CRJA, JP Shadley was asked to provide a Landscape Master Planning report outlining critical issues and opportunities for the campus landscape. Items included in the College's plans include locations for multiple types of student housing, comprehensive campus identity signage, site connections to outside the main campus, locations of future parking areas, treatment of the central campus Mall, and landscape changes to reduce ongoing maintenance requirements.

In 2005, Shadley Associates worked with the President and other representatives to prepare concept designs for walls, fencing and signage for several gateways at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. Concluding with a presentation to the Board of Trustees in October, 2005, the work included site visits, conceptual design, graphic renderings and presentation materials. Following approval by the Board, Shadley Associates prepared the construction plans and details necessary to build the new gateways, which were completed in the summer of 2006. These new gateways define the campus edge, provide clarity in wayfinding, and enhance the campus landscape. Shadley Associates is now working with Einhorn Yaffee Prescott on an updated Master Plan for the entire campus.
