Cornell University

Pam Shadley was Principal-in-Charge while with another firm for the site improvements at the landmark Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations.  The design for the new courtyard provides safe and attractive pedestrian walkways which connect across the space and with the classrooms, the library and the conference center.  The site plan creates a flowing landscape setting while resolving circulation issues for the post office, the building service docks, and the significant parking requirement, all of which are located within the space.  An intricate site grading plan accomplishes the necessary accessible routes while adapting to the sloping topography, and at the same time creates an interesting framework for the attractive new garden and gathering spaces.  Wall detailing captures materials and finishes of adjacent buildings, and planting complements the street and campus plant materials.
