Shadley Associates is part of a team creating a new 12 acre park in the heart of Lake George Village, New York.  The new park design includes a 2.5 acre festival space which will host multiple events, a skate park, water feature, looped walking trails, and a naturalistic adventure play area. The Adventure Play Area, designed by Shadley Associates, is based on four types of habitats. It includes looping walking trails, climbing stumps and boulders, fallen trees with textured naturalistic pavements, climbing nets and walls, a bubbling boulder, boardwalk, and “huts” made of thicket.  Water conservation is a unifying theme of the park and is interwoven in the grading and planting plans, drainage plans and the interpretive exhibits.  The project site is on seven acres north of West Brook, a major stream draining to the Lake, and five acres south of West Brook where a group of public entities have constructed major settling ponds and wetlands to improve the quality of storm water runoff into the Lake.

The team includes Elan Planning and Design, Fish Partners, CT Male Associates and Hoffman Architects. The client group includes the Village of Lake George, Warren County, Lake George Associates, the FUND for Lake George, and the Lake George Land Conservancy.  Design work started with a four day public charrette in July, 2011, and the team is currently completing Design Development.  The Adventure Play Area was highlighted in the Lake George Association Newsletter.
