South Broadway Park
Malden, MA

Shadley Associates is working with the Malden Redevelopment Authority, the City Councilor, Malden Catholic High School and the Mystic Valley Charter School to develop conceptual design alternatives and final construction documents for the complete rehabilitation of South Broadway Park. This park currently has a Babe Ruth Baseball field, a totlot, a roller hockey court and a tennis court that are in disrepair. The project goals are to create a new, expanded Babe Ruth field of synthetic turf with high school lacrosse and soccer in the outfield, three tennis courts suitable for league tournaments, a basketball court, a new totlot, and passive outdoor recreation space. The alternatives are looking at the locations of these recreational amenities, plus the complete restructuring of vehicular circulation, parking, and connections with the adjacent School, Maplewood Park and Mystic Valley Shopping Plaza. The City is talking with the neighboring shopping center about shared parking and revised circulation for the benefit of the shopping center, the school, park and the community. The project will also mitigate the current stormwater problems in the adjacent residential neighborhood. The project will go through design evaluations and cost estimating, followed by bid documents, permitting and approvals and then construction, currently scheduled for 2011.
South River Park and Greenway
Marshfield, MA

Shadley Associates is prime consultant working with the Town of Marshfield, Nitsch Engineering and LEC Environmental Consultants to prepare the South River Park Master Plan for 1.65 acres of recently acquired land bordering the South River. The Team is also performing a feasibility study for a .56 mile riverwalk trail connecting this park with the Old Colony Rail Trail. The Master Plan for the South River Park restores and protects the sensitive ecological riparian habitat while creating opportunities for public use and access to the South River waterfront. It serves as a gateway to Marshfield's downtown area and has 300’ of frontage on a major north-south roadway in this region. The plan proposes porous pavement, an Overlook Pavilion, green open space and ADA-compliant walkways that traverse 10’ of grade change. The riverwalk trail area is approximately 3,000’ (.56 miles) in length and connects the new park site with the recently completed Dandelion Park and the former Old Colony rail bed which is now a multiuse trail. The South River Park Plan was approved at Town Meeting on April 26 and final design and permitting will be underway soon.
